5 Important Habits to Develop in the New Normal
When the COVID-19 pandemic resolved at the beginning of 2020, many people did not foresee that it would last as long as it does now – more than a year and it is being counted.
It spawned the term "new normal" which refers to the new way of life we have to get used to – one that is drastically different from what we were used to before the COVID-19 virus ravaged the world .
Instead of being embroiled in frustration or denial, this new normal is definitely there and could stay a lot longer than we can imagine.
Hence, it is important to adapt and get used to the changes in our daily lifestyle in order to be safe from the virus.
Here are just a few of the important habits to develop amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
1. Wear personal protective equipment
Face masks have become an important part of our daily clothing, especially when leaving our homes. While personal protective equipment such as disposable respirators and medical gloves are more suitable in hospitals and medical facilities, fabric-based masks and handguards for everyday use may be more practical and economical.
These garments can be washed and reused for extended periods of time, and some even have antimicrobial properties that provide the wearer with an extra layer of protection. Neck masks are also available in the market these days. They are designed like smaller neck gaiters and are actually fitted to the person's face to protect the wearer and others.
2. Frequent hand washing

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, hand washing was an essential part of personal hygiene. We have learned to do this mostly before eating and after using the toilet.
Today, however, experts remind us to wash our hands at every opportunity during the day, especially when we leave our homes.
This is to reduce the risk of infection and contamination. Just in case we come into contact with people who are carriers of the virus or with surfaces that may contain respiratory droplets from those people.
3. Social distancing
People who are social beings instinctively want to touch or get close to their loved ones and friends.
In the new normal, however, these are actions that we have to unlearn at least for the time being. Experts advise us not to shake hands, hug, kiss, or make any other kind of loving touch.
Instead, we are encouraged to use alternative forms of social greeting, such as greeting cards. B. foot knocks, air kisses or even a simple nod as a sign of appreciation.
4. Compliance with the rules of breath etiquette

We have long been taught basic etiquette in school; B. Covering our mouths with our elbows when we sneeze, cough, or yawn.
However, we all know that there are many instances where we simply don't follow these rules of etiquette and take for granted the possibility of us spreading around viruses and bacteria.
The COVID-19 pandemic was a wake-up call in that we can no longer afford to be sloppy on this matter. More than ever, you need to consider the well-being of other people in your personal actions.
5. Stay home more often
Today, even the most introverted people have to get used to the prospect of being locked in their own homes for long periods of time.
This is where your creativity and ingenuity will help develop indoor recreational and indoor activities that will allow you to relieve stress and anxiety about the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 health crisis.
It also takes discipline and dedication to learn new skills like cooking or just doing the dishes, which we have taken for granted due to the ease and convenience of eating.
There are many more aspects of daily life that must be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The key is to stay open and be ready to take on these difficulties as challenges that will reward you with good health and safety from COVID-19.
