Omicron and vaccination protection
Andrew JacobsCoronavirus reporting
Why do scientists worry?
Early evidence suggests that Omicron may be significantly more contagious than the highly contagious Delta variant. Due to a high number of mutations, scientists also fear that Omicron could evade the immune system and vaccines more easily than previous variants.
The makers of Regeneron have already indicated that their Covid antibody treatment against Omicron may be less effective, but tweaks can be made to the drug if necessary.
