7 DIY Deep Conditioning Masks To Soothe Dry, Damaged Hair

You may not think of limes as a fruit to get the most out of your hair, but they can. In particular, this tangy fruit goes well with coconut milk for an unexpected DIY hair mask that has great benefits. Limes are high in vitamin C, which is essential for fighting dandruff and even balancing oil production for people struggling with oily scalps.

We now know that coconut is perfect for moistening and coconut milk can even act as a detangler in two ways. In some cases, people have claimed that this powerful combination can soften the texture of their hair and mimic the benefits of a relaxer – but it doesn't. Most likely, they are simply experiencing the benefits of conditioning which translate into hair that is softer to the touch or curls that "pop" because they're properly hydrated.

To make this mask, you will need to spend some time in the kitchen. Combine 1 can of coconut milk with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), 4 tablespoons of lime juice and 2 to 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Start by mixing the coconut oil and EVOO in a saucepan and whisk over medium heat until mixture is smooth.

Add the lime juice and cornstarch while continuing to stir the brew. Do not fully cook the mixture, but be careful to allow the added cornstarch to thicken it. You want it to have a conditioner texture. Remove from heat and cool before applying it to your hair. After cooling, apply thoroughly to hair and cover with a shower or processing cap for up to 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and excess mixture can be frozen for future use.
