Ryan Terry Diagrams His Ambitious 1,874-Calorie Mass-Building Protein Shake

Terry is putting on muscle his own way.

Bodybuilder Ryan Terry showed up at the 2022 Olympia hoping for a historic win, but unfortunately, even with his best stage presentation, this 2016 Olympia runner-up in Men’s Physique landed in seventh place. In the middle of this landmark off-season for this seasoned veteran, Terry takes time to recently detail his one-of-a-kind strategy for trying to make up for his disappointing Olympia result.

On January 29, 2023, Terry posted on his YouTube channel explaining one of the strategies he uses to bulk up and put on mass. He walks viewers through the ingredients in his massive, 1,874-calorie protein shake.

Here is a list of what goes into this massive protein shake, made by Terry himself:

Ryan Terry’s 1,874-Calorie “Mass-Building” Protein Shake
Oatmeal: 180g — 584
Full Fat Milk: 300ml — 198
Pure Honey: 40g — 130 kcal
Nut Butter: 50g — 310kcals
Frozen Mixed Berries: 80g — 27 kcal
Whey Protein 2 scoops = 200 Calories
two Bananas: sliced— 220 cal
Cluster Dextrin: 2 scoops — 200 calories

Grand Total—1,874 calories

It is quite obvious that Terry has worked out a brilliant nutritional strategy for the protein shake. It looks like he has left nothing to chance, just what one would consider from an experienced bodybuilder who knows every detail to get into the right physical shape.

In these, Terry’s attention on adding a tablespoon of honey, half a cup of yogurt, and a turmeric shot does something besides adding flavor but adds some probiotics, enzymes, or other health-boosting properties. Terry splashes in a couple of bananas, which come with the advantage of a bevy of potassium.

The added-on oats at that point come with a hearty dose of fiber. Ingredients like the cyclic dextrin make this a simple shot of easily digestible carbohydrates for the shake.

The two scoops of whey protein—Terry’s favorite flavor is here, making this chocolate mint—add density as well as texture, not to mention that it’s a critical nutrient for muscle development, while the frozen berries can be regarded as an antioxidant source.

According to Terry, the combination of cashew, peanut, and almond butter not only adds flavor to this monster shake but also increases the total number of calories from this nutrient-dense source. Out of all of those accomplishments, though, and setting aside the 2016 Men’s Physique Olympia runner-up finish, Terry might be best known for his respective wins in the 2015 Pittsburgh Pro, the 2017 Asia Grand Prix, and the 2021 Arnold Classic UK.

These were all pretty big wins in their own right, but it’s evident Terry has his sights set a bit higher in the context of his lengthy career: winning the Men’s Physique Olympia title.

A comprehensive nutritional benchmark like this large protein smoothie is one small but indicative step for Terry in preparing for reaching his long-term goals on that front.
