Diet For Thyroid Patients- Indian Weight Loss Blog

The thyroid is no longer an uncommon health problem, especially in women. In a way, you could say that more women have thyroid than men. Every other girl / woman has either thyroid or PCOS, which are responsible for the weight gain. This is an observation from people I meet every day. Until I knew that I was also one of those sick with thyroid gland (irony of life!).

The thyroid is a gland in the shape of a butterfly in the neck. By the way, sometimes I have the feeling that it looks more like an insect: P.

So what's the big deal with thyroid, if you may ask! It may be the smallest, but one of the most important glands in your body. It controls sleep, metabolism, energy expenditure in your body and your WEIGHT.

The thyroid produces thyroid hormones, which are responsible for all important functions. The brain's hypothalamus signals the pituitary to produce thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which in turn signals the thyroid to produce the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

If this is your first time getting a thyroid test, make sure to examine your TSH, T3, and T4 levels. Later, depending on your medical problems, your doctor may advise you to only undergo TSH for future progress.

An under-productivity of the above hormones leads to Hypothyroidism "And productivity leads to"Hyperthyroidism".

Symptoms of hypothyroidism

  • Spiritual fog and forgetfulness
  • Nonspecific pain and stiffness in muscles and joints
  • Excessive or scanty menstrual bleeding
  • Infertility / Miscarriages

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism

  • Increased bowel movements
  • Tremor (usually a fine shake)

Patients with hypothyroidism should avoid taking iodine supplements and rely on iodine from the diet. Iodine is found in dairy products, multivitamins, shellfish, processed foods, etc.

  1. Calcium intake needs to be increased.

  2. Quit alcohol and smoking.

  3. Thyroid patients must avoid goitrogens.

These are naturally occurring substances in foods that can affect the functioning of the thyroid gland. Some of the goitrogens are –

  • Soybean / soy based foods
  • Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, beets, mustard, etc.
  • Fruits like peaches, strawberries and peaches
  • Peanuts, radishes, tofu, spinach and millet

Stress and thyroid

From my personal experience I see a direct influence of stress on the function of the thyroid gland. I didn't have a thyroid 1 year ago when I did all of the tests. 6 months ago I was stressed due to some personal issues. In fact, it still goes through! And I can tell you that my thyroid is due to my persistently high levels of stress!

exercise

Regular exercise is extremely important. Early diagnosis can prevent weight gain / loss. After guessing 6 months and gaining 10 kg, I realized that maybe it is time to repeat all of the medical tests!

Medication

I take Thyronorm 25 as recommended by my doctor. The dosage is directly proportional to your TSH level. Mine isn't too high, so Thyronorm 25 is sufficient. I have a couple of friends who have been taking Thyronorm for 50 years as their TSH is always on the verge of being on the verge of taking medication. Of course, if they don't take medication, it creates problems! By the way, I forgot to mention that you need to see an endocrinologist for your thyroid.

Please let me know if you have any questions about thyroid. I will try to answer as much as I know from my personal experience (read suffering 😛)
