I remember going to the gym for the first time on the summer break when I was a sophomore engineer (seems like ages ago: P). The trainer said not to drink water while exercising. Now when I look back, I find that he showed water loss during exercise than weight loss n fools like I believed!
Drinking water during exercise depends on many factors – the intensity and duration of your exercise, temperature, etc. All of these factors determine how much fluid / water you lose during exercise.
Is drinking water good for the body while exercising?
It is recommended that you drink a small to moderate amount of fluids while exercising. This will help you move on. When you exercise, you need to know how to drink water effectively to prevent dehydration. Water is important during exercise as it helps release toxins from your muscles. Your muscles can become dehydrated and cramped if you don't drink enough water.
How much water and when
You shouldn't wait to drink water to start exercising. Ideally, you should have water three times –
Before the training
Waiting to drink water just before training is a mistake! This is because the water you are drinking at this point is not effective. They need to be well hydrated before training. So drink water two to three hours before your workout to keep your body properly hydrated. This gives your body ample time to hydrate and prepare for a workout. If you start sweating after a few minutes, the water is coming from what you drank before you exercised.
While the training
As you sweat, the water reserve that you drank before training becomes depleted. Make sure you drink roughly 8 ounces of water for every 10 minutes you exercise. You don't need to take a water break every 10 minutes 😛, you can just keep sipping when you get the chance! However, avoid large sips of water and do not ingest too much water during a single break.
After training
When you are done exercising, your body still needs water to replenish the amount of water you lost during your exercise. Make sure your muscles are healing by staying hydrated later.
So drink water to your heart's content. You protect your body and especially your muscles from dehydration by drinking water.
Are you going to start drinking water while exercising 🙂?
