Flank steak with tomatoes, red onions and balsamic vinegar

Fresh and flavorful, this summery grill steak recipe is a great way to enjoy summer tomatoes. The tomatoes and red onions are seasoned with salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar and olive oil and topped with any combination of fresh herbs such as basil and oregano.

How long do you grill steak on the grill?

Turn the grill on high heat and cook the steak for about seven minutes on each side for a medium-rare steak. The internal temperature should be 135 degrees, and for a medium-sized steak with a warm pink center, cook it to 145 degrees. After you've taken the steak off the grill, let it sit for about five minutes before slicing.

What to serve with grilled steak

This grilled flank steak would be delicious with a side of grilled lemon parsley potatoes and asparagus. Some other side dish options include this grilled corn salad with feta, grilled vegetable orzo pasta salad, and buttermilk mashed potatoes. You can also serve the steak and tomatoes as a salad with mixed vegetables or arugula.

Variations:

  • Replace balsamic vinegar with red wine vinegar.
  • Swap the red onion for the shallot.
  • Add the avocado to the tomato topping.
  • If you can't find a flank steak or London broil, go for flat iron steak.
  • Serve the tomato mixture over the chicken or salmon.
  • If you don't have an outdoor grill, you can use your grill or buy an indoor grill pan (I use this one).

This grilled steak with freshly chopped tomatoes, red onions, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil is one of my favorite ways to make steak in the summer.

  • 2 lb Flank or London grill steak
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt and fresh black pepper, taste
  • Garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1/3 Cup Red onion, chopped
  • 3 to 4 medium tomatoes, chopped (approx. 3 1/2 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs like oregano, Basil or parsley
  • Pierce the steak all around with a fork. Season generously with salt, pepper and garlic powder and let rest for about 10 minutes at room temperature.

  • In a large bowl, mix the onions, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Let the onions sit in the mixture for a few minutes so that they become a little softer. Mix with tomatoes and fresh herbs and season if necessary.

  • Heat the grill or grill on a high level. Cook the steak for about 7 minutes on each side, until it tastes medium rare or longer. Remove from the grill and let rest on a plate for about 5 minutes before slicing.

  • Cut the steak diagonally into thin slices; Cover with tomatoes and serve.
