How to Romance Yourself through Self Doubt
It feels like spring is just around the corner. After a long and cold winter, we can feel in the air how hope slowly dissolves in front of us, with a fresher perspective on our direction of travel. We're almost in a transition phase, peeling off the layers we've added to protect ourselves and keep the warmth inside. We trust that we have integrated the featured lessons and are preparing for the upcoming new season. We let our "inner knowing" guide us through this process in which we begin to bring to life the vision we have created.
This is the time to think about how our vision can take shape, who we want to create it with, and come up with a sustainable long-term plan that supports our desire not just in the short term.
How can we do that? One of my favorite strategies is the SMART Framework:
The more specific you can be in setting your goals, the more appropriately you can take action. Supported by your vision, it can be framed a little larger. Vague and undefined only leads to failure as we can get lost in the details – details are fun and help us find a more suitable solution.
Ask yourself: is it quantifiable? Having a measurable goal will help you determine when exactly it was achieved and better understand what needs to be done or changed to achieve that goal.
And sustainable – for you and the environment. The reason for setting a goal is to ignite an element of motivation and drive in you. However, if it's too high and unrealistic, it can cause the opposite effect. It is critical that it be done gradually. You have short term and long term goals, and the short term goals will gradually increase and evolve as you gradually evolve.
It can be really good to have an amazing vision, but it's important to be aware of our starting point and evaluate the resources available at the time we are ready for this new change – time, equipment … whatever is asked of you.
Planning is important. Create a routine with a daily and weekly schedule to make sure you have an allotted time for this task. That way, you'll stay motivated and disciplined – with adequate breaks, days off, and rewards. (The best way to keep you going!)
Did you already know about the SMART system? All in all, frameworks help us create clearer and more detailed plans for the change. However, without your desire, your WHY, and a willingness to do what it takes to get there, there is not much you can do on your own.
Spend some time connecting these two parts of the process – the desire (goal) and the why (your sustain) and how to put them into action.
