My Yoga Experience and Weight Loss
Hey girls
When the temperature drops, it becomes a little difficult to exercise outdoors in the early morning. It is better to train indoors in winter.
Here I am going to discuss how I got into yoga and how yoga helped me lose weight and get a more flexible and toned body.
I wanted to learn yoga and practice it regularly from the day I received few yoga classes as extracurricular activities in school as I loved the way how easily I did all of these asanas compared to others and the attention I got: P.
I looked for a few yoga classes but found it to be quite costly and decided to stick with my evening walks and some exercise. I was a little lazy getting up early in the morning for walks and exercises 😛
It was September 2012, that is last year; I started taking morning walks when my father insisted that I take morning walks rather than evening walks for some fresh air. So I thought about trying the morning walk and moved to the district park in my area. I've seen many yoga groups in the parks with a number of people from every age group practicing yoga, and there was a teacher with each group from a particular institute. These yoga groups made me think about yoga again, but I was too shy to do yoga in the park.
After a few days, I decided to join the group. This group only includes middle to old age people, but I wanted to do yoga so I did. On the first day I was a little nervous whether I could do yoga asana like years ago. But I have to say, the group and the instructor encouraged me, helped me a lot with the asana and appreciated me when I did the asana correctly. 😀 I just love this group for support. 🙂
We started with a few arms, hands, and whole body stretches, including some neck and back exercises to reduce stiffness, and those with neck problems like me get some relief from these exercises.
After 15 minutes starting with asana, the first asana was Suryanamaskar and then doing different asanas for different parts of the body and each asana is done to cure some or other diseases. I received all of this information through the instructor. Few asanas were specifically designed for weight loss. Another asana included was Dhanurasana, Halasana, Trikonasana. I don't remember these asana names well, I find it difficult. 😛
It took an hour to do all the asanas as the asanas have to be done at low intensity and there is a 1 minute break after each asana. When these asanas were finished we started meditation and breathing exercises as this is part of yoga and is good for mental health and plays an important role in relaxing the mind. Exercise like pranayam, anulom-vilom, others. In what full concentration was the breath, how you inhale, how you exhale everything. It took 15 minutes.
So my yoga class lasted an hour and a half. I felt so good, so relaxed, energetic, and serious at the end of the session that I felt fresh all day. I was so impressed that I was happy to wake up early in the morning for another yoga session. I couldn't believe myself and my parents when they saw me wake up alone early in the morning. 🙂
The effects of yoga are easily seen on my face and in my body. I lost 2kg in 2 months, I know the weight loss isn't much, but I felt fine and everyone was asking me the reason for my toned body 🙂
Weight loss in yoga is a little slow but permanent. Once you stop doing yoga, even if you just check your calories with no exercise, those extra pounds won't come back. However, this does not mean that you will stop doing yoga after you have achieved your goals.
For the past two and a half months, I have been on bed rest due to a torn ligament in my foot. So I don't have any training, but I miss yoga a lot. Yoga can make exercising so easy and once you begin you will feel incomplete without it. I was the one who always ran away from workouts and was lazy, but yoga changed me. I will never be bored.
If you also love yoga, share your experience and if you have never tried yoga just give it a try 🙂
