WL: You're an accomplished yoga teacher who embodies the rock star vibe, but a lot of people may not know it is you actually in a rock band. Tell us a little bit about how you make moonlight as a rocker.

SN: Long before I became a yoga teacher, I was always in a band. I was the lead singer of a Guns n ’Roses cover band in high school, and even when my yoga star rose, there was never a time I wasn't on the mic.

My current project is Sadie & The Tribe: good old trashy, melodic, guitar-driven rock & roll.

I have another voice within me beyond the yoga teacher – one that roars – and the songs we write give me this original outlet!

We have traveled the world writing and performing, and this year more music is being released on Spotify and all platforms.

WL: Given your touring experience, you'll have a lot of insight into the invisible pressures that touring professionals face. What are some of the toughest things professional musicians (and their crew) do on a day-to-day basis?

SN: People who are not musicians think that life is just glamor when in reality it is mostly grind. Being on the go can be brutal for the body and mind, even with the comfortable tour bus.

Even more important for musicians and crew to take care of their body and mental health radically, while basically sitting for hours, moving heavy equipment or, if you are the performer, going on stage, taking care of your physical and mental health Blasting energy in a way that's epically exhilarating – and incredibly draining!

WL: They publish a new course on Wanderlust TV in support of Backline. Why does their mission resonate with you? How would you like to see post-pandemic tour musicians absorb some of your somatic and mindfulness teachings?

Sadie Nardini Editorial 3SN: We've all just gone through hell. This was a global pandemic that the history books will teach us about long after we die! Add to this the added amount of fear imposed on artists and crews, many of whom suddenly lost their livelihoods. I know: I was on stage in LA in February 2020 in front of hundreds of celebrities from the music industry, enjoying a ton of potential opportunities, and then suddenly – the lights went out.

Artists and crew need to take care of their minds and bodies in a unique way. Ultimately, we are creatives who also need to build superhuman perseverance to do what we do well.

The partnership with Wanderlust and Backline is something I thought I would never see: wellness care for musicians and their network! It's as important to us as it is to anyone, and I am honored to be a part of helping my musical family meet my movement.

WL: Your new course on WLTV is a wide range of modalities: HIIT, meditation, yoga and somatic stretches. By presenting a bag of short tools not only to musicians but also to anyone returning to a professional life with travel or long work hours, would you like to lower the barrier to entry so that each of these modalities could be a gateway to delve deeper into a different area?

Sadie Nardini Editorial 2SN: Necessarily. Each of these sessions are short enough that anyone with limited time can do them, but they are all based on my anatomical expertise, so a 15 minute session can provide the results and benefits of a much longer class!

Since the sessions are separate, but can also be mixed and combined into longer courses, it is my intention that these become a gateway to rock your entire body / mind fitness more constantly and powerfully!

WL: If you could reach a talented artist who is struggling with mental health problems, what would you say to that person?

SN: I've been there and I know it's all too easy to find unhealthy coping mechanisms – like drugs, alcohol, partying, avoidance, stuck – to handle the stress and inconvenience of creating on such a bold and demanding level.

The sessions I have designed will help stir up lethargy, let go of negativity, recharge your batteries, and refocus your body and soul. I told them, "Give me 15 minutes and give these sessions a try." They work on all your levels to quickly get you back into the shape, mood, and daily balance that we artists need most.
