Sausage pepper and onion Stromboli

This sausage and pepper bread is basically a stuffed, rolled pizza. It's so delicious you'll want to do it again and again! I teamed up with DeLallo for this sausage-filled bread recipe that is perfect for feeding a crowd. I always have the DeLallo pizza dough set in my pantry so I can bake pizza whenever I want without having to go out to buy dough.

Pizza kit

DeLallo's pizza dough kit uses 00 flour and comes with a yeast pack. So all you have to do is add enough water to make two pizzas.

Make pizza dough with the DeLallo pizza dough kit

  • Combine the flour mixture and yeast packet that come with the kit in a large mixing bowl with 1¼ cups of lukewarm water. Stir with a fork until a batter begins to form.
  • Knead by hand for three minutes or until the dough is soft and smooth.
  • Transfer to an oiled bowl and cover for 45 minutes until the batter rises.

How to warm up when you are in advance

You can prepare this Italian filled bread in advance and cook it under for 10 or 15 minutes and then reheat it when you are ready to serve it. Simply cover with foil and place in the oven until it is heated through.

Variations:

  • Swap the Italian chicken sausage for turkey sausage or even ground turkey with Italian herbs. You can also fill the bread with turkey hot peppers.
  • Make it dairy free by leaving out the cheese.
  • I love DeLallos Pomodoro Spicy Arrabbiata Sauce because it's hot and tasty, but if you don't like spicy food you can use any marinara or my homemade marinara sauce recipe.
  • Use the entire pizza dough set to double this recipe and bake 2 loaves of bread.
