The Fruitarian Diet – Healthy Or Not!

I'm a fruit lover and that's the only reason I love summer. These giant red watermelons and golden warty melons are a treat for the eyes. As most of you know, there was a time I lost 40 pounds when I was on the Atkins Diet. You can read my weight loss story here….

In a lot of my previous blog posts I have written about how I slowly regained all my weight from injuring my ankle while exercising and being over-excited. The age factor with menopausal weight problems played dirty in my case, like many other women. But mostly it was my bad eating habit that got me into a total health problem. Now that I'm about to turn 55, I plan to lose some weight again … actually a lot of it has to go now. 😛

As I strongly believe in the concept of "self-help is the best help", I came across many articles in search of an easy way to lose weight in summer The fertile diet. The question lurked in my head, would this be a great way to lose weight! So here I have been thinking about sharing with all of you who are sailing in the same boat as me … Please read and share your thoughts on the fertile diet in case you have ever tried it.

The Fertile Diet – Is It Healthy Or Not?

The fertile diet

Nowadays people are turning to veganism and vegetarianism. They keep getting louder when it comes to following a plant-based, vegan, or vegetarian diet as the healthiest way to lose weight quickly. A large population in the world follows the fruit diet, in which fresh fruit is eaten at all meals. According to nutrition experts, the fruit diet is a very restrictive diet and is not recommended. Basically, it violates the rules of a balanced diet. Well, I agreed … BUT …

Can We Use The Fruit Diet To Lose Some Weight Quickly?

We all know that fruits are filled with natural sugars like fructose, antioxidants, vitamin C and beta-carotene, etc. We also know that fruits can reduce the risk of cancer and many other chronic diseases. Nutrition experts recommend eating seasonal fruits as healthy, but say that fruit servings that make up no more than 25% to 30% of an individual's diet should be included in a healthy eating plan. LOL and we're talking about eating 100% fruit…. 😛

There are diets like the Mediterranean diet in which fruits and vegetables are contained in larger proportions. By the way, the Mediterranean diet is considered one of the best heart-healthy diets. As for losing weight on the fertile diet, nope experts refuse to accept it as healthy, but agree that it can help in losing weight quickly as it is a very low calorie diet. So weight loss, YES, but there is a high chance that the business will lose muscle. Hmmm! this is something to be concerned about.

Reasons Why The Fertile Diet Is Not Recommended …

  • The fertile diet is very restrictive and can cause various health problems.
  • Although some may experience rapid weight loss despite the fact that fruits are high in natural sugar, eating large servings of fruits can help you gain weight instead of losing it. Hmm! Risky isn't it?
  • For diabetics and pre-diabetics, this can be a risky diet for obvious reasons. The natural sugar in fruits can negatively affect blood sugar levels.
  • The fertile diet can never be a healthy option for people with pancreatic and kidney diseases.
  • It has been found that those who follow the fertile diet in general suffer from low levels of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iodine, and even omega-3 fatty acids. This can lead to various health problems such as anemia, low energy levels, and immune system disorders.
  • Since fruits are low in calcium, this can also be the cause of osteoporosis.
  • Malnutrition caused only by eating fruits can lead to cravings and eating disorders.
  • Worst of all, if you only eat fruit, you will be deficient in various vitamins, fats, and proteins that can put your body into starvation mode and therefore difficult to lose weight in the long run. We all know that when we starve our bodies, it slows our metabolism down to save energy for basic functions.

Isn't it very clear that the fertile diet is not a healthy option at all? However, if you want to lose weight quickly to fit into a smaller dress for a special day, you can try it for a maximum of three days. Or the better way is to have a meal than "fruit only" but a balanced meal.

I'll try this middle ground for a month along with some walking exercises (my osteoarthritis doesn't allow me more than that – sigh!). Let me do this for exactly one month and then I will share all the results with you using my personal experience.

Until then, eat healthy, stay home, and stay safe.
