What To Eat In A Excessive Protein Low Carb Weight-reduction plan

A low-carb, high-protein diet has become quite a rage, and everyone seems to be following it these days, and they're seeing the results too. I now see a lot of celebrities advocating it and some avoiding it entirely. For example – Rujuta Diwekar does not endorse it and she encourages people to have a balanced diet and more local food, eat healthily and get up early and not start the day with tea etc. I read once that all of their customers have had rice in their dinner. I've seen people lose a lot of weight after following her. If their diet plan works for you, this diet is not for you.

The same goes for protein diets. Some of you may find it completely impossible and for others it may be for the best. The reason I prefer a low-carb, high-protein diet is because it suits me better. I love all of the things the diet dictates and the best part is that there is no portion control. This diet got me off my PCOS, at least it is under control and if I keep it on for a long time I may get rid of it completely forever. So all in all, it works for me.

Now the thing is what to eat on a high protein, low carbohydrate diet. You can't have bread, momos, roti / chapati, paratha, suji (semolina), pizza, burger, potatoes, what will we eat as? … don't worry … that's what I thought when I first considered it, but to my surprise I now have so many variations in my food that I didn't even know it before.

For example – anything buttery in my meal was an absolute no, but now I have 2-3 tablespoons of butter every day. So my food is high in protein, but it's also delicious.

On a high protein diet, I don't count my calories, which is a huge relief. Additionally, this is an expensive diet so you need to keep an eye on this matter. Eating different types of nonveg, nuts, and cheese is expensive, but not so expensive that all of your money will be spent on it.

In addition to the permitted foods: –

High protein diet eggs: –

I prefer to eat eggs almost every day and try to learn different ways to make them so it doesn't get boring. Also, most high-protein diets should include eggs and yolk, which is quite a benefit. There is less waste and eating with egg yolks is more fulfilling. I made some of the recipes here based on eggs. You can check them out here

1 egg is equivalent to 6 grams of protein and they are affordable too. If you can get organic eggs, it's a lot better. Egg dishes are also available everywhere. Even when you are on vacation, you can always ask for different types of egg dishes. I usually order egg curry or omelette when I'm on the go, or have egg curry in my meal, also with a little salad and quark.

2) Cheese in a high protein diet: –

I love cheese and add it to my diet in a number of ways. Although some dairy products are high in carbohydrates, the fermentation process reduces the carbohydrates from the cheese, making it suitable for a low-carbohydrate diet. Parmesan cheese is considered the best at 10g of protein per ounce. Some of the cheeses like cream cheese and cottage cheese should be avoided as they only contain 3 grams or even less protein per ounce.

I add cheese to salads, sprinkle it over grilled chicken, cauliflower puree and cabbage and in an egg recipe. There are many ways to incorporate it into your meals and of course it is delicious too.

Nov Veg In High Protein Diet

You can have a wide variety of non-vegetarian foods, including chicken, ground turkey, lamb, salmon, shrimp and tuna, and more. This should be an important part of your diet. I generally have chicken and fish as I have been a vegetarian for a large part of my life and so am still learning in this area.

Some things I've tried for this diet are Butter Chicken, Grilled Chicken, Chicken Masala, Shrimp Curry, and Fish in Coconut Recipe that my friend Rashmi taught me that is delicious! I'll be sharing his recipe sometime in the coming days.

Nuts in a high protein diet: –

Almonds, nuts and pistachios are full of protein and contain omega-3 fatty acids. I usually have these with milk while I'm exercising. Walnuts add crunch to your salad. I love having almonds soaked overnight. I powder them and also add them to my soups and salads.

Panner & Tofu

We Indians love to have paneers, and somehow no dinner is served without a paneer dish. One can have paneers in many different ways. To be grilled, palak paneer, butter paneer, salads etc. For tofu you have to marinate it with soy sauce for 10-15 minutes and then toss vegetables in the sauteed sauce of your choice. I generally have paneer as readily available, but if you can have tofu then it will add variety in your food and its good source of protein.

The foods listed above are the main source of a high protein, low carbohydrate diet, at least in India. If you are outside of India there are plenty of other good things high in protein and low in carbs these days. Remember, we must have a good amount of fats even while on the protein diet. Taruna made a post on why we should have ghee here.

I have 1-2 teaspoons of butter in everything I eat. Be it eggs or roasted vegetables. It makes me happy and all of my life I have never really enjoyed butter because of weight problems.

Along with these we can have rajma, chickpeas, whole milk and yogurt, oh yes! even peanut butter in moderation. Flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, and even sunflower seeds can also be eaten with this diet. We can also enjoy a hot cup of coffee with full cream, but yes without sugar.

Sugar is an absolute no to this diet. If you have a sweet tooth, chocolates are available online that are 70% chocolate and are still allowed. Somehow I'm almost done with my candy cravings. After following this diet, I can easily sit and watch people eat ice cream or pastries without thinking I wish I could too 🙂

Also, I sometimes cheat and drink 2 tablespoons of rice with a large bowl of Rajma, but that doesn't affect my weight as much. In addition, a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet is a lifestyle, not a diet plan. When you leave them, you will find yourself gaining weight again. Follow them and accept them as your lifestyle.

Let me know if you are aware of any other high protein foods that may be included in this diet: –
