Which Carbohydrates To Eat:Good,Bad,Simple or Complex?
What carbohydrates should you eat: good, bad, simple or complex?
Hello everyone!!
I've heard a lot about low-carb diets, but never really bothered about them because I may have been too young at the time. But in today's fitness world, the term "low carb" is used quite a lot. Most of the time, when I read the diets of celluloid goddesses, it is low in carbohydrates and high or moderate in protein. What exactly are carbohydrates and what do they do? Let's see.
Let me tell you that our bodies use carbohydrates to make glucose, which is the fuel that gives us energy and helps us keep moving. The word carbohydrates only reminds me of two things – roti and bread, to be honest! I think this is what most Indians think. What are the other sources of carbohydrates besides grains and grains? Read them below:
- fruit
- vegetables
- milk
- Sugar (I mean laden foods !!)
So the good things like fruits, vegetables and milk have carbohydrates and at the same time bad sugary things like carbonated drinks, sweets, pastries have them too. With all the junk food around us, I don't think we're going to give up carbohydrates 😛
What carbohydrates should you eat: good, bad, simple or complex?
Do you know that there are two types of carbohydrates? They are the "good" and the "bad". Are you wondering what that is? Again, I'd only heard of good cholesterol and bad cholesterol before.
Bad – Refined carbohydrates are considered "bad". They are made from sugar and refined white flour (maida). The sad thing is that most baked goods fall into this category. So no more white bread, cakes and cookies.
Good – The term “good” carbohydrates is used to describe foods that are high in fiber and complex carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates take longer to break down into glucose. Foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans are known as the good carbohydrates.
Do you have any idea which carbohydrates to eat? Good, bad, simple or complex?
Then there are simple carbohydrates and complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are sugars that occur naturally in foods such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and dairy products. But they can also come from added sugar in processed products. Foods with added sugar have fewer nutritional values than foods with naturally occurring sugar. Hence, it is always better to consume foods with naturally occurring sugars.
Now let's talk about complex carbohydrates; Starch and fiber are the two types of complex carbohydrates. Starch is found in certain vegetables such as potatoes, dry beans, peas, and corn. It is also found in bread, grain, and grain. Food supplements fiber can be found in vegetables, fruits and whole grain products. The following list of foods is a good source of nutrition fiber:
- oatmeal
- Oat bran
- Nuts and seeds
- Dry beans and peas
- Whole wheat bread
- Brown rice
- Whole grain cereals
- Wheat bran
- Most of the vegetables
- fruit
It is recommended that you consume 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories you consume each day. So how can you make sure you are getting enough fiber from your diet?
Well, you can follow the tips below for this:
- Try consuming whole fresh fruits instead of fruit juice.
- Make sure you have a variety of vegetables every day.
- Try salads for a quick snack. Add carrots, cucumber, or radish.
- Eat lots of beans and peas.
- Choose whole grains more often.
- Start your day with a whole grain breakfast. Replace white bread with whole grain bread. Most Indian breakfasts are healthy (hmmm not chole poori!)
It's all about carbohydrates here! So now you know what kind of carbohydrates are good for you. Make your own choices and stay healthy.
