Top Eating Mistakes To Avoid
There are a couple of eating mistakes that we make knowingly or unknowingly! I am listing the top eating mistakes to avoid.
I don't bother reading food labels
Food marketers are big liars! I am not blaming them. After all, it's their job to sell everything the company produces. So they are marketing the product in a healthy way by putting misleading labels on them. Adding tiny, healthy ingredients doesn't make a processed food any better! Need Help Reading Food Labels? Ignore raw foods
Simple nutrition has become a really complicated business. People want great foods like quinoa, and fancy foods like asparagus. The point I want to make here is that if you don't eat raw foods like fruits and vegetables, eating superfoods won't help. Humankind was fit when they eat naturally, and today we know about obesity and calories thanks to junk and processed foods. If a food has a long list of chemical-sounding ingredients, run away from it 😛
Drink fruit juice
Do you drink fruit juice and think it is healthy? You should have a second thought after reading this.
Not eating enough protein
Protein is the most important nutrient. Our bodies burn more calories to process protein, and so consuming higher protein levels can help with weight loss. Protein controls appetite and increases fat burning. I'm going to be reviewing a protein supplement next month after using it for a few days.
Eat "healthy" whole grain wheat
Oooh yes, my favorite discussion point. I want to say hello to the person who marketed whole wheat. Whole wheat is not always healthy. You may be wondering why! The thing is often accompanied by a lot of unhealthy ingredients. Wheat is digested quickly and can increase blood sugar levels. Wheat has gluten which is known to cause serious illnesses and well-known diseases such as cholestrol. I will write more about gluten sensitivity in the coming posts. In short, whole wheat is considered to be the healthiest grain, isn't it!
Avoid fat
Fat doesn't make us fat. We need good fats to burn belly fat. If your mom gives you Desi Ghee on your chapattis, please accept. Just make sure ghee isn't burned. The best way to use it is to soak in cooked daals and over chapattis or rice. Fats increase good cholesterol (HDL). Avoid artificial fats like trans fats.
Use of artificial sweeteners
Sucaralose, aspartame, sichhirin – all are bad. Read the reviews here. Use organic jaggery, stevia, raw honey.
Count calories
I'm not denying that calorie counting is not important. But it's not the only mantra that makes you lose weight at all. Some people focus on portion control and eating the right type of food to help them lose weight. Some people who can't eat less have a viable option: cut down on sugar and carbohydrates, increase protein and fat without counting calories.
